It all balances out.

I rarely make New Year’s resolutions but this year I think I’m in need of some bookish ones. You can read the reason behind each resolution over on my WordPress blog.(FYI These resolutions are for me. I’m not suggesting that others have to follow them too ;))

While the best personal trainers are giving advice based on dozens, or perhaps hundreds of clients, (Runkeeper) will have access to the experience of millions, if not billions, of clients.

Hamas Leader Visits Egypt:
In his first official foreign trip since 2007, Hamas leader and Gaza PM Ismail Haniyeh visited Egypt on Monday.  Interesting timing, considering both the unrest in Egypt lately and that the visit occurred one day before the three-year anniversary of the beginning of Operation Cast Lead.  He’s pictured above visiting the Muslim Brotherhood Center in Cairo, and though I’m not sure what the Brotherhood’s role was in this visit, Haniyeh made his intentions pretty clear.  The Washington Post quotes him:

Haniyeh described Hamas as the “jihadi movement of the Brotherhood with a Palestinian face.” He said his visit to the Brotherhood center would confuse and frighten Israel.

“Our presence with the Brotherhood threatens the Israeli entity, “ Haniyeh said…

He’s right.  Israel expressed worries during the Egyptian Revolution about a regime change threatening it’s peace treaty with Egypt.  Al-Nour, the party which finished second to the Muslim Brotherhood in the recent Egyptian elections, has been overtly threatening to change the treaty lately.  Israel is likely less than reassured by seeing Haniyeh being greeted enthusiastically by the group which won a majority in said elections.

A Yemeni protester shows her hands, which read “Welcome revolutionaries,” during a rally after Friday prayers in Sanaa on Friday. The demo was a reaction against amnesty given to president Ali Abdullah Saleh. He won’t be prosecuted, but will step down as president.
